Day 8 or Day One, Week 2

I walked 30 minutes back and forth on the beach in Westport. I could feel different muscles in my calves and thighs working. It was great! My son climbed up and down the dunes for 30 minutes.

Before that we took a tour of the Westport Lighthouse, otherwise known as Grays Harbor Light. We climbed up then down 135 steps.

After the beach, we went into Westport and climbed the rocks. My son climbed down farther on the rocks which I have video of.

It was a great day!

I didn't get a chance to walk today

I didn't walk today as we headed to Westport for a family day and it is too late to walk tonight. It is OK as I went 7 days straight so today will be my rest day and Sunday will be my day 1 for next week.

I am only feeling a bit guilty...

Day 7 -- Woo hoo, I ran 4 minutes!!

I did 30:04:

1 minute @ 3 mph
2 minutes @ 3.5 mph
2 minutes @4 mph
3 minute @ 4.5 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
2 minutes @ 3 mph
5 minutes @ 3.5 mph
5 minute @ 4 mph
1 minute @ 4.5 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
2 minutes @ 3 mph
2 minutes @ 3.5 mph
2 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 2.5 - 1.5 mph

I am so proud of myself. I ran for 4 minutes in 2 minute increments. I did the first minute at 4.5 mph then the second at 5 mph. Much easier and I did not have to grab on to the bar. Woo hoo!

Regarding the breakdown, I lost track of how many minutes I did for each but the mph is correct.

My son told me that he runs at 4.5 mph so I gave it a try. I like it and I don't think I will burn myself out. I will also build up my endurance at a slower, but consistent pace. At school, he walks/runs the track as 3/4 of the track he will walk and the last 1/4 he will run. That is how he is doing it on the treadmill. I think he needs to slow down just a bit or HE will burn himself out.

Day 6

I did 30:06:

1 minute @ 3 mph
24 minutes @ 3.5 mph
4 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 2.5 - 1.5 mph

Well, I was only going to walk until the music ran out but it was still on at 30 minutes so I walked the entire 30 minutes!! Woo hoo!

I feel better and better every day. I still wish I could sleep better but I know that is only a matter of time.

Congrats to me!!

Day 5

I did 30:04:

1 minute @ 3 mph
4 minutes @ 3.5 mph
2 minutes @ 5 mph
3 minutes @ 3 mph
5 minutes @ 3.5 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
2 minutes @ 3 mph
3 minutes @ 3.5 mph
4 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 2.5 - 1.5 mph

I decided to start to run sooner. The last of the 2 minutes was HARD...again...and I held onto the bar...again. =O)

For the last 6 minutes, I opened up my bottle of water which the cap flew off so I stepped off which, of course, pulled the safety clip out of the treadmilll. So, I think I did 30:04. Oh well, at least I am exercising, right??

Day 4

I did 30:04:

5 minutes @ 3 mph
20 minutes @ 3.5 mph
4 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 2.5 - 1.5 mph

I have my son to thank for me getting off my butt and exercising today. Thanks!!

I feel good and am glad that I did it.

Day 3

Today I did 30:06.

5 mintes @ 3 mph
5 minutes @ 3.5 mph
2 minutes @ 5 mph
5 minutes @ 3 mph
3 minutes @ 3.5 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
3 minutes @ 3 mph
2 minutes @ 3.5 mph
3 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 2.0 - 1.5 mph

This was a tougher day for me. The minutes at 5 mph kicked my butt! I have to admit I grabbed onto the bar for the last minute of the 2 minutes. Sorry, Jillian!!

I did like that I varied this a bit and I was really swinging my arms when I wasn't holding onto the bar! =O)

Tomorrow I will do easy walking. 3.5 mph max so I don't burn out.

30 mintues while only walking on a treadmill can go very slow. Thank goodness for music on the computer!!

Day 2
Today I walked for 30:02 minutes.

14:30 minutes @ 3 mph
10:30 minutes @ 3.5 mph
4:00 minutes @ 3 mph
1:00 minute @ 2.5 - 1.5 mph

I really wanted to run but like I said before it is not recommended at first for beginners like me. I was even debating about whether or not I should increase the speed up to 3.5 mph but I was getting bored and actually walk faster than 3.0 mph so it felt good.

Tomorrow, I am going to try to run for longer because I think I misunderstood how long to run so I will try 10 minutes walking and 3:30 - 5:00 running. We shall see!

I did barely get any sleep last night. I fell asleep at 2:00 am - 2:01 am and then was up until 4:30 and woke up at 6:30. I did finally doze off around 8:00 ish. Thank goodness the family likes to sleep in on the weekend!

This is why I started earlier today. My goal is to eventually do this every morning before my son goes to school and outside with him.

Day One in my quest to train for the 5 mile run on August 8, 2009
Okey Dokey! I did it!!

I walked/jogged for 30:01 minutes.
Here is the breakdown:

10 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
9 minutes @ 3 mph
1 minute @ 5 mph
8 1/2 minutes @ 3 mph
30 seconds @ 1.5 - 1.0 to cool down

I felt good and my heart rate did not go over 161 which is perfect. I think the ratio is 210 - age (41) = rate.

I had a pivotal moment last night which spurred (word ?) me into action. I have been overweight for over a year. But last night I was sitting next to my son and he pat my stomach and it jiggled. Like jello. Not good! I remember reading in Cosmo a long time ago that a characteristic of a Libra is a softly rounded belly. Nothing about jello...

When I did the wedding on the 9th, I grabbed a flyer (mentioned before, I believe) for a 5 mile run. I asked my son if he wanted to give it a go with me. He said yes so this week I went to Big 5 and bought him a pair of running shoes (I already have a pair) socks, shorts and a shirt all made out of the wicking away material for both of us.

I am proud of myself and it went faster than it has before. 30 minutes can take forever sometimes!! It went faster probably because the girls were entertaining me (they are my nieces and they live with me) and my son put on some dance music for me. He is going to exercise later tonight.

I will walk again tomorrow but walk/run on Monday. I have been reading that you should not run for 2 days in a row when you first start. Maybe I will try to jog for 2 minutes. or at least 1 1/2 minutes on Monday.
